Movies about the era of depression often gangster children play with toy guns: You see the spark of “That’s cool!” But a sentence. The underconceived “public enemy” who is not unity, but Johnny Depp is so urgent and charismatic as John Dillinger, enough firepower to the film credible.
Not that “enemies” is not a refreshing sensitivity to mature, and the connection between celebrities and Dillinger legitimate, but only lukewarm explore. But the director Michael Mann, the work is a book by Bryan Burrough, a filmmaker needs something more than poetry matter. Where is it that clicks ( “Collateral Directive”, “The Insider,” “the last of the Mohican”). If not ( “Miami Vice,” “Ali” “Heat”), a burning empty.
